Truck stop and travel center employees are strategic in the fight against human trafficking. Although movement is not a required element of the crime, traffickers often relocate their victims to follow demand, evade law enforcement and maintain control. When they travel, they are stopping at the same truck stops, travel centers and gas stations as everyone else, creating multiple opportunities for victim recovery. Therefore, it is critical that all truck stop and travel center employees understand the realities of human trafficking and are prepared to act when they encounter it.
This course, which can be completed in less than 10 minutes, features two animated stories of truck stop employees who provided assistance to law enforcement in investigating human trafficking and helped in the recovery of survivors of trafficking and exploitation. It also includes guidance from TAT on what sex and labor trafficking look like, how to identify red flags and what to do if you suspect human trafficking.
